{"id":262,"date":"2013-06-16T10:48:08","date_gmt":"2013-06-16T09:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/?p=262"},"modified":"2013-06-16T10:48:08","modified_gmt":"2013-06-16T09:48:08","slug":"saturday-is-special","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/2013\/06\/saturday-is-special\/","title":{"rendered":"Saturday is Special"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I like Saturdays.\u00a0 When I was young I used to think it was a magical day.\u00a0 The day was one that you could spend doing whatever you liked free from the restraints of school\u00a0and Saturday night was Big Night Out.\u00a0 A dance at\u00a0St Elizabeth&#8217;s Church Hall\u00a0and I thought I&#8217;d died and gone to Heaven.\u00a0 And yesterday was another magical Saturday; an emotional roller coaster&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I had a fabulous class with my Junior Dramas at Stages Studios.\u00a0 The youngsters are so talented and I love teaching them and seeing what they&#8217;re capable of.\u00a0 Magic.<\/p>\n<p>And then a private lesson with a super-talented student who is almost at the end of a gruelling course and who is going to get the qualification with bells on!<\/p>\n<p>And then the news reached me that Anna Scher, my friend and mentor, had been awarded the MBE in the Birthday Honours List.\u00a0 About bloody time! I was beyond thrilled at the news, which brought a tear to my eye.\u00a0 This is so well-deserved &#8211; but, come on, Your Majesty, it should have been a Damehood, surely?\u00a0 Anna has had some rough times, yet she&#8217;s picked herself up and her classes are\u00a0still full to bursting.\u00a0 And you come out of Anna&#8217;s classes absolutely buzzing.\u00a0 We spoke on the phone yesterday and she was as modest as ever about the honour, yet, obviously, very pleased.\u00a0 Well done, Anna!\u00a0 Can&#8217;t wait to see you on\u00a0Friday and give you a huge congratulatory\u00a0hug!<\/p>\n<p>And Saturday afternoon\u00a0the Sister and I went to the Rememberance Service held by Havens Hospices for all those who died in the last year.\u00a0 Mum was visited by Havens&#8217; Hospices at Home staff, who were calm, caring and just wonderful.\u00a0 It was, of course, a very moving service.\u00a0 I was fine until the Havens Hospice Choir started singing Eva Cassidy&#8217;s <em>Songbird<\/em>.\u00a0 Music is so emotive.\u00a0 I started bawling and didn&#8217;t stop until the service was over.\u00a0 It&#8217;ll be a year since Mum&#8217;s death on 6th next month.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t believe it&#8217;s been that long since I last saw her.\u00a0 But one thing brought a smile through my tears and I know it would have made Mum chuckle.\u00a0 The Minister, Margaret, said candles couldn&#8217;t be lit in the chapel <em>&#8220;for health and safety reasons.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/em>Has the world gone mad?\u00a0 If you can&#8217;t light a candle in a chapel where can you light it?\u00a0 And as the choir sang\u00a0<em>&#8220;I believe that somewhere in the darkest night a candle glows&#8221; <\/em>from\u00a0<em>I Believe <\/em>(and sang it beautifully) I could almost hear\u00a0Mum saying\u00a0<em>&#8220;not in here it doesn&#8217;t&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And then, a drink with Auntie and three of my lovely Cousins before they went to the theatre, and home for an evening on the sofa watching TV.\u00a0 Emotionally exhausted!<\/p>\n<p>And so onto today&#8230;. a trip to the cemetery to lay flowers for my Dad as it&#8217;s Father&#8217;s Day.\u00a0 And a private lesson with one of my favourite people and this afternoon &#8211; Actors&#8217; Factory and &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; Andy Murray in the final of the Aegon at Queens!\u00a0 So another emotional day.<\/p>\n<p>And as a footnote &#8211; I&#8217;m writing this with BBC&#8217;s the Big Question playing in the background.\u00a0 Someone&#8217;s just said that those born 1945-1966 are the wealthiest people in the country.\u00a0 Have I missed something?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I like Saturdays.\u00a0 When I was young I used to think it was a magical day.\u00a0 The day was one that you could spend doing whatever you liked free from the restraints of school\u00a0and Saturday night was Big Night Out.\u00a0 &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/2013\/06\/saturday-is-special\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[146,39,202,201,142],"class_list":["post-262","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-actors-factory","tag-andy-murray","tag-anna-scher-mbe","tag-havens-hospices","tag-stages-studios"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/262","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=262"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/262\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":263,"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/262\/revisions\/263"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=262"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=262"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.elainespires.co.uk\/journal\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=262"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
