The saga of the iPad continues…..<\/p>\n
Having learned to live with the blips and the buffering over the last two weeks, I was dismayed to see the charge lead for my iPad was wearing through. \u00a0Those of you familiar with said lead will know it has a sort of bendy bit where you plug it in. \u00a0Well, it might have seemed like a good idea at the time to Apple and I’m sure whoever designed it \u00a0like that had their reasons but, mine had bent itself to such a degree that it broke. \u00a0I, of course, panicked.<\/p>\n
HOW WILL I EVER GET SINGLE ALL THE WAY FINISHED IF I CAN’T TYPE IT UP?<\/p>\n
A phone call to my marvellous friend B assured me there is an Apple shop on Antigua, but it’s in English Harbour down in the south, while I am in Five Island, in the northwest, without transport! \u00a0Anyway, long story short, I rang them yesterday morning and they arranged for an employee to bring one up for me by lunchtime. \u00a0How about that? \u00a0THAT is what you call customer service! \u00a0Thank you, Caribit!<\/p>\n
As some of you might know, I am a huge fan of vitamin B1 as a mosquito repellant. \u00a0Since I’ve been here I’ve doubled the dose having spoken to three people who have had chickungunya recently, a severe flu-like virus caused by a mosquito bite. \u00a0Apparently it knocks you right off your feet and causes excruciatingly painful joints and total weakness. \u00a0My joints are bad enough with my arthritis, so I’m taking B1 pills like Smarties so that the mozzies will keep away!<\/p>\n
I had a fabulous catch up dinner last week with the wonderful NS, who was one of the first friends I made here when I first came in 2003. \u00a0She came round bringing takeaway and it was so lovely to see her and listen to her words of wisdom and advice on European Women Living In Antigua. \u00a0And who would know better than N? \u00a0She’s been here 30 years! She has a wonderful laid-back-take-it-all-in-my-stride attitude, which I love. \u00a0Such a great evening!<\/p>\n
Like most writers, I suppose, I am an avid reader. \u00a0One of my favourite authors is PhilippaGregory, whose books I adore, probably because the Tudors is my favourite period of history. \u00a0While looking through my bookcase one day last week I came across her book, the Virgin’s Lover, about Robert, Earl of Dudley, and Elizabeth I. \u00a0I absolutely loved losing myself in it, especially as I’ve read a few chick-lit books recently; not my favourite genre, I must admit. \u00a0I dislike knowing that heroine and unlikely hero will be a match made in heaven after only reading the first couple of pages. And, yes, while I knew that this love affair would come to nothing – Elizabeth remained famously single – it was such a great read; a real treat.<\/p>\n
There’s just one mystery: how did it get on my bookshelf and why didn’t I notice it before?<\/p>\n
