I could not be more pleased today! We open our 2015 Season of Hot Holidays with my fellow Essex-girl writer……. Caroline Mitchell. And……..drum roll…..her book Don’t Turn Around is published TODAY!!! HOORAY!

Caroline, a detective, lives with her husband, four children and two dogs in a pretty village on the coast of Essex.

Three years ago, Caroline encountered true paranormal activity from an unknown entity in their home. A writer at heart, Caroline documented her experiences and wrote a book in the hope of helping others. She discovered a passion for writing and based her fiction thrillers on the two subjects she is most passionate about: crime and the paranormal.

ES: Thank you so much for agreeing to find the time for this just before your publication date. We really appreciate it. So, where did you spend your last holiday and why did you choose to go there?
CM: Our last holiday was to Letoonia in Fethiye, Turkey. I chose to go there because, as anyone with children knows, holidays abroad can work out very expensive! We always go all inclusive and you seemed to get the most for your money in Turkey’s big resorts. Having said that, I found the shine was taken off our holiday due to all the problems with terrorists in the news at the time. I don’t think I’ll be going back there again.

ES: What a shame, it’s such a beautiful place, too. But what’s your favourite type of holiday?
CM: I work long hours and life can be quite chaotic at times so my favourite holiday would be somewhere exotic, a Sandals resort with crystal clear green-blue waters and sugar white sand would be paradise. Hopefully one day I’ll make it there when the children are all grown up.

ES: And your least favourite?
CM: My least favourite would be built up, noisy, smoky, crowded and polluted places.

ES: Where did you spend your best ever holiday and what made it so memorable?
CM: My favourite holiday of all time was to Las Vegas. It was the first holiday with (my now husband) Neil, and the first time I had ever travelled out of Ireland. What a culture shock that was! I loved every second, and I’d love to go back there again.

ES: Fabulous! I love Vegas, too, mainly because it’s big and brash but doesn’t pretend to be anything else. Have you had any holiday or travel disasters, Caroline?
CM: No, I don’t think I go on enough holidays to have encountered any. ☺

ES: Tell us about a place you long to visit and the reasons why.
CM: Right now I’d love to get back to Ireland to see my family. It’s tough finding time with work and everything, but I treasure every visit. There are also some real gems in the UK. I adore London, I’m visiting York and Harrogate this year too, and I’d love to visit Scotland.

ES: Yes, there’s something about Ireland….Who’s your favourite travelling companion(s) or do you prefer your own company?
CM: I’m quite happy in my own company, but I will always choose my husband as my favourite holiday companion. We like the same things, and are able to make the most each holiday, taking turn looking after the children while the other one relaxes.

ES: I know you’ve got a husband, but, have you ever had a holiday romance?
CM:Sorry, I’m married and boring!

ES: Married, yes, but I can’t believe boring! How would you spend your dream twenty-four hours if you could travel to multiple, worldwide destinations with no travel restrictions?
CM: Right now I think I’d be quite happy to lie on a desert island somewhere nice. Having said that I’ve always wanted to visit Thailand, Australia, Canada, Seychelles and Barbados. I’d also make a quick stop to see my family in Ireland too!

ES: Great choices! And finally, what tip or piece of advice would you give to holidaymakers and/or travellers?
CM: Life is all about perspective, and you only have to look on Trip Advisor to see how some people enjoy their holidays while others complain about everything. Look at the positives and always be polite to others. You are an ambassador for your country each time you go abroad.

Thank you so much, Caroline! Enjoy your launch-day and here’s hoping Don’t Turn Around is a HUGE success! I can’t wait to read it!
