COOK

Having the flu jab last week gave me mild flu-like symptoms for a few days. Last night I felt under par and so went in for a bit of self-nurturing – snuggled on settee, wrapped in duvet, sipping hot chocolate and watching Poirot.

I love Poirot.  And Miss Marple.  I’ve always wanted to be in one, oh not as a lead – I know my place! – but as Cook.  Physically I’m ideal and I could always see myself in mop cap and apron, worriedly kneading dough whilst uttering the immortal line “Lord above!  We’ll never get Her Ladyship’s lunch in time with all this carry-on!”  (CASTING DIRECTORS are you reading this?)

Of course, it’s too late for me to be in Poirot as they’ve made the last ever episode and killed him off.  Unless he has a Bobby Ewing-type resurrection, which I can’t honestly see happening.  Shame that. Although I noticed last night how much older Poirot looks now, some of which is down to Mother Nature’s work on David Suchet and the rest to the talent of the make-up artist.

This morning I feel better, thank you for asking, and am writing this while having a coffee looking out at the rain.  It’s quite a grey day and I can’t see the Thames, yet alone Kent which is easily visible usually.  And today is Hallowe’en, which I dislike intensely as it’s an imported, commercialised event that I do not see the point of.  I much prefer Bonfire Night, which seems to have lost impact over the last decade, probably due to the runaway juggernaut that is Health and Safety, although Trick or Treating ( yuk! ) is definitely a dangerous activity; an accident waiting to happen as they  so often say.

I had a lovely lunch with the Daughter yesterday, who was able to see me between meetings, bless her.  She works so hard.  And lovely lunch the day before with M, although the journey took forever thanks to roadworks on A13.  And on Monday it was another lovely lunch with three other dear friends, D, L and S. A lunch full of belly laughs and that’s the best kind of lunch.

And with all this food experience you can see why I’d be so good as Cook In Period Drama!!
