The Banjo Is On Its Way!!

I am excited and thrilled to finally be able to tell you that THE BANJO (Book One) will be available on Kindle from THIS Friday, 13th May! Hooray! Here is what it looks like:

The cover – which I LOVE – is the work of my very talented cousin, Brian Spires, who did the drawing. It was then finished off by the no less talented Lisa Moreno at Vanilla Gecko (www.vanillagecko.co.uk)

It will be out in paperback in two months’ time, for those of you who like a ‘proper book’ but for those with Kindles, mark this Friday in your diary. And, as always, if you like it – or even if you don’t but have some constructive criticism – then please write a review on Amazon.co.uk for me. Much appreciated!

The work on the decking and pool has come to a halt with the garden looking as if a bomb has dropped. The workmen are really nice men, but they’re not the world’s tidiest. Apparently, we have to wait for a week now for the concrete to ‘sit’ so that it can take the, considerable, weight of the pool and the water. The workmen didn’t tell me that in the beginning 🙁 Still, as I keep telling myself ‘You’ve waited so long, what’s a few more days?’ At the moment, I’m still surrounded by noise – and water! – as the Fella Who’s Far Away is power-hosing the house for me. What a difference! I hadn’t realised just how dirty the gutters and the pathway and steps were. It’s looking nice again. He’d started the work on Friday but had to stop as the public water went off. I’ve got my own tank but am paranoid about running out. When he was connecting the hose to the garden tap I said I’d get the gardener, who was also here cutting the yard, to pull up the three huge weeds that were growing up around the tap. ‘They’re not weeds,’ he replied. ‘They’re papaya trees.’ Papaya trees!! I hadn’t realised and have no idea how they got there. Perhaps one of the tenants or a passing bird had dropped seeds. He did say he wondered why I’d planted them so near the house!!

Anyway, the gardener dug them up and put them down the south end of the garden next to the lime tree and the banana palms. They looked sorry for themselves and I’ve been watering them, although it has rained quite a bit over the last couple of days, and this morning I saw that all three are spouting new leaves. Look!

I’ve had a very pleasant couple of evenings. On Friday I went to C&C with B, where we met up with two other friends, E & G and had a great chat and food all washed down with decent wine. And E & G invited me to a dinner-party they were holding on Saturday evening. They live in Blue Waters, which is a very nice part of Antigua and one I don’t really know very well. They had three of their neighbours in, plus B and her fella C so there were six of us and it was a super evening. It’s so nice to get out and meet new people, isn’t it?

Thanks for your feedback on my little interview with Martina Cole; I’m glad so many of you enjoyed it. 🙂

So – I’ll be bombarding you all with reminders about The Banjo and Friday all week. You must excuse me, I’m just so, excited! And don’t forget to please spread the word for me! Thank you!
