Blame It On Angela!

Well, Dear Readers, following your requests for more books I’m working hard on Holiday Reads 2 with my next novel not exactly on the back boiler; it’s been worked on, too.  Sort of.  Oh, all right!  I’ve been waylaid.  Side-tracked.  Something’s got in the way.

And it’s all Angela Marsons’ fault!!

I started reading Silent Scream.     I could not put it down.  It’s one of those books where you get to 3am yet you’re still scrolling the iPad and muttering ‘Just one more chapter!  Just one more chapter!’  And then as soon as you wake up you decide to just read a couple more pages while the kettle’s boiling and before you know it, it’s lunchtime and you haven’t written a single word of your own stuff.

Still, I don’t begrudge a moment spent on reading it.  I bloody loved it.  It’s full of believable characters, realistic dialogue (apart from everyone calling the police officers ‘Detective’.  They do that in the States.  Don’t we use rank when addressing them here?) and it moves along at a good pace.  Gripping.  And then even after the murderer is discovered, there are two more twists!  And, as you all know from my own work, I do love a good twist.  So it was time well spent.  But now it’s head down and get on with your writing, Spires!

I just want to mention A Year in the Life of a Playground Mother by Christie Barlow here, too.  You see, a year or so ago I got caught up in a group – it turned out to be a Secret Society! – run by an author for their own self-aggrandisement.  The deal was you got to read all their books for free in exchange for tweeting a given text each day and giving them a decent review on all the usual sites.  Hmm!  That was never going to work really as I didn’t like the books.  I did the odd retweet, though, but it wasn’t enough and I was drummed out for ‘being inactive’.  Thank you, Universe!  So when Christie asked me if I’d read her book I agreed – because she’d asked me to give an HONEST review – which I also did.  FOUR STARS – very funny, if somewhat cruel in places!  You can read my review on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com

So – I have been enjoying myself!  And, as lovely as this has been……… now, it’s back to work!
