Bull and other stuff

I’ve had to have words with the cowherd.

I have to point out here that I was the only one having words, as he just grunted.  I’m not sure whether it was in approval or disapproval.  You see, until fairly recently the area that is Five Islands New Development was just open land and so local people used it as their own personal grazing ground for their goats, cattle and horses.  Now that there are houses built, albeit not too many, they still let their animals roam.  Before I had the fence put up I heard a terrible commotion one night and a clanging that could only come from my car.  Fearing someone was trying to steal it I looked out of the window to see a bull mounting a cow and using the bonnet of my car to rest one of his hooves during the act!  Anyway, the other afternoon I’d heard the most awful noises coming from all round the house.  A cow must have been in season because three bulls were having a bellowing competition to win her affection.  I had never heard anything like it; the sounds coming from them made Concorde sound like Tinkerbelle’s footsteps.  A huge grey one, with saliva dribbling from his mouth in great gobs was being tethered to a tree stump not six feet from my fence by the aforementioned cowhand.

“Excuse me!” I called out.  He grunted.

“Are you going to leave that animal tied up there?”  He grunted.

“But it’s going to annoy us with all that noise.”  He grunted.

“Why don’t you take it and tether it next to your house?”  He grunted.

But at least he took the animal away.

I had a very pleasant evening at the cinema – great place, fully air-conditioned with nice comfy seats.  I’d planned to see Skyfall, but there was a queue so I saw Taken 2 instead and was one of only four people in the cinema – like a private showing!!  Now I have to say, there’s far-fetched and there’s far-fetched and then there’s Taken 2!  I love Liam Neeson, but he now looks every one of his sixty years and to see him taking out six or seven badies at a time is laughable.  Still, it passed a couple of hours and was entertaining, even if the camera work could have brought on a migraine.

I had a lovely dinner with my friend B – love her company!

And yesterday I had a drink with some friends I know from groups I’d looked after here.  I was surprised at how sad I felt afterwards… I hadn’t realised just how much I missed the way of life, the chats around the dinner table and the pleasure and pride I got from seeing people have a great time,  But it also made me realise that whatever dirt they try to dish on me or however many bullying e-mails I get from their legal representative in the hope I’ll drop the Tribunal, they can never say I wasn’t good at my job.  I WAS A BLOODY GOOD TOUR LEADER!!!

‘And what about the latest book?’ I hear you ask.

That’s coming along nicely, thank you.  As I’ve said previously, Antigua is good for the creative process.

And thanks for all your lovely comments about Sweet Lady – yes I know it’s shorter than the others! – Keep them coming!  xx
