All Good Things…

And so, here I am, on the last day of my working holiday in my beautiful Antigua.  Well, it’s the penultimate day, really, but as tomorrow is departure day and it’s usually a round of madness I have to make the most of today.  The time has flown by; it seems as if I’ve only been here eight or nine days and not twenty. but I’ve had fun.

Particular fun was yesterday filming another Amazing Adventures of Maisie and Em trailer.  I don’t want to spoil anything for when you see it (which I know you will!!) but it involved me getting very wet – something the director, Lawson Lewis, and my co-actress Heather Doram, found highly amusing, not so say the people watching from the main road who burst out laughig and gave a round of applause.  We also had to deal with a heavily pregnant dog – okay, bitch – who kept walking into shot!  As I say – great fun!

I enjoyed myself, too, facilitating the Actors’ Workshop for the International Film Festival of Antigua and Barbuda, alongside the fabulous Phonse Emmanuel (Rosenfield).  It was well attended and the actors and aspiring actors threw themselves into the participation exercises with gusto.  Kudos to the Motion Picture Association of Antigua and Barbuda for organising the whole thing, which will certainly help to make Antigua the centre of film-making in the Caribbean.

I’ve had the usual things to deal with – a flat tyre, which was fixed promptly and at a reasonable price by the guys who boast “You flatten dem – we fatten dem” – and my car overheated on Sunday on the way to the shoot, but I was rescued by Heather and then Lester fixed it for me the next day – once again, promptly and reasonably.  The garden’s looking lovely and I can’t wait until the hedge is completely finished.  My neighbour S does a wonderful job.

And so, off to do some errands before my last few hours on the deserted beach at Freyes, to watch the sun set for the last time this holiday between Montserrat and Redonda.  I’ll sip a little cocktail and wipe away a little tear as I watch it.  And then the Last Supper with a group of dear friends.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!

And once I don’t have to deal with intermitent, weak, wifi connections I’ll post a picture of the Little Green House on my website, because some of you have been asking to see it.

And then back to Essex, to what is, my favourite time of year.  I love the run-up to Christmas; the lights, the atmosphere, the Christmas drinks/meals/parties with friends.  Last year was amazing as I was in the Ladykillers in the West End and the atmosphere was electric and I used to thoroughly enjoy the bus ride from Fenchurch Street to Piccadilly Circus; seeing all the lights and the Christmas trees, was a magical experience.

And on with Singles in India!  I’m pleased with my progress so far, but have to be a bit stricter with myself in the New Year!

So – goodbye, warmth and sunshine and hello, Christmas!
